Matchgame 2012: Linking Clinical Needs with Engineering Know-how

On May 18th,  HTE@USC will present:

“Matchgame 2012: Linking Clinical Needs with Engineering Know-how”

HTE@USC will host a second annual Frontiers Symposium at HSC’s monolithic 2001 Soto Street facility. Health, Technology, and Engineering students will discuss the status of their matchmaking efforts between clinicians who posed problems and potential engineering collaborators who, together, could help think broadly in search of solutions. The students’ efforts will be showcased in rapid-fire presentations along with a keynote address by Dave Marvit, VP Internet Services Research, Fujitsu Laboratories of America.

Dave Marvit will speak about lessons he’s learned on the corporate side of similar matchmaking efforts. Fujitsu Labs is developing a data tracking and analysis platform that it hopes will facilitate many fruitful clinician-engineer partnerships to address a broad array of clinical questions.

All clinicians, faculty, and students are welcome to register to participate in this Symposium. Start time will be 10 a.m. and we expect to wrap-up by around 3 p.m. This year’s event is co-sponsored by the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance. Kindly, indicate if you are interested in attending all or part of this symposium by providing the requested information in the “Comments” section of the RSVP.

TEDxUSC volunteer opportunity for USC students

About TEDxUSC: In March of 2009, TEDxUSC became the very first TEDx event ever held in the world. The event sparked a global phenomenon that has resulted in more than 3200 TEDx events in more than 90 countries and 40 different languages. TEDxUSC is produced and managed by the USC Stevens Institute for Innovation. The role of volunteers at TEDxUSC: Volunteers play a crucial role in the execution of TEDxUSC. Through TEDxUSC, the Trojan family hosts one of the world’s leading TEDx events and one with very high visibility on the world stage. This year volunteer roles are focused around the beautiful interactive lounge being developed by Executive Producer Ian Murphy. The lounge will be located in Alumni Park and host 1200 attendees. Volunteers will be the prime interface between TEDxUSC and our attendees, vendors, sponsors, and demos in the lounge. We rely on them to help cement these relationships and provide the most TED-like experience to our guests. Specific roles: Volunteer roles may include assisting with the setup of demos in the lounge, assisting vendors with the preparation and service of foods, processing attendees as they check-in, providing directions from the attendee information booth, ushering, assisting sponsors, and shadowing directors of the event. Another very important role will be set-up and strike-down pre- and post-event. Benefits of volunteering: TEDxUSC is a very large undertaking and provides a great experience in event management. Our volunteers also receive a letter of participation, apparel, and opportunities to network with the TED-minded USC crowd at the volunteer/staff party.

TEDxUSC 2012 takes place Friday May 4
